Birds let you know when a tornado is coming. At least it was my opinion that it was ok to come out of the shelter when I heard one singing outside my window. And I was right. There was no tornado during a tornado warning.
They are a part of living on Earth. Wherever you go, there are birds. They just are. So you come to love them or to hate them. Hating a bird to me is the same as someone who wakes up to a fresh dawn and says the f-word. Doesnt make any sense.
My love for birds is spiritual. They uplift me with their skill and beauty. I’m amazed at what they can do in the sky- their knowledge of wind currents and their skill at diving, rising, hovering, and gliding. Flocks of birds, winging, waving and turning together, is ethereal. And the beauty of their colors is amazing. And the calls and songs run the gamut of very odd to complex and beautiful. My favorite bird is the Red-wing Blackbird. I love their call, and the flash of red on their wing when they fly. And they’re so social. They bring back memories of running the fields of Ohio around my grandfather’s farm, at the age of 5, over 50 years ago. Fantastic!
Birds are beautiful and tell us so much about the world. By the way, I may be out of touch but I couldn’t figure out how to vote for a bird on this website.

Birds are the most prevalent indicators of how positive or destructive we humans have affected the environment. They are our ‘Alert System’ like the Canary in the mines.
